A nice gentle introduction after over 4 months off the water, not.

When I arrived it was raining pretty hard and there were white caps all over. The car park was flooded and you had to drive through water to get to a small parking area by the water sports centre. Waited around for a short while as the place was deserted.

The rain soon stopped so as the Wind was gusting between 20 to 30 knots, a solid F5-6 so rigged up my 5.0m on my 90l wave board with 23cm wave fin. A guy from Shrewsbury arrived, which was good given the conditions to have some company out there.

On the water it was pretty choppy with the chop breaking over the lakeside into the flooded car park. The 5m as very well powered up to over powered. Over the other side by the sailing club it was mad. Had quite a few good runs and managed ok to stay in control, went for survival and didn't try anything just blasted across and back.

The other chap was on a 5.4 and came in to change to a 4.5 after some damage to the 5.4.

After a break went out for more but although the forecasts were for the wind to ease off, it cranked up a level and soon it went mad all over and some. I changed to my 4.5m but even then after a while struggling with the board getting ripped from the water when recovering the rig I came in and called it a day.

Measured the wind at the end of the lake when leaving and it averaged 30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots. Nice.

I need a 400 mast, my 4.5m, which needs replacing, doesn't rig well on my 430.
